At Be CARB Compliant, we want our clients to have the latest CARB-related information. The Clean Truck Check program has us working overtime, and we know our clients have many questions.
The important news today is that CARB has delayed the periodic testing start date for the Clean Truck Check program. It now begins on 1/1/2025 with an effective date of 10/1/2024 (including the 90-day compliance window from 1/1/2025).
While the Clean Truck Check testing regulation has been delayed, CARB’s PSIP testing program remains in place. CARB will still require one smoke opacity test for 2024 for units from applicable fleets.
CARB Testing Opportunity
Most importantly, CARB is allowing credentialed testers to perform and submit tests adhering to the Clean Truck Check standards ahead of the normal 90-day testing window. Passing tests will count toward the unit’s PSIP testing requirement for 2024 and the first Clean Truck Check test of 2025.
What does this mean?
- You can test early for 2025 and get all your units completed at the same time.
- You will satisfy 2024 and the first half of 2025 CARB testing requirements at one time with a single test.
- You will avoid the first round of individual testing deadlines for 2025.
- Fleets/units not currently subject to PSIP testing regulations (one-truck fleets and truck with 2021 and newer model-year engines) can still test early for Clean Truck Check, avoiding the first round of compliance testing dates.
Clean Truck Check Test Requirements
In order for your unit’s results to be submitted as a valid Clean Truck Check test:
- 2013 and newer model-year engines must undergo OBD testing.
- 2012 and older model-year engines must be tested using the SAE J1667 snap test, and a visual inspection of the emissions-related equipment must be performed and submitted to CARB in addition to test results.
- No MIL/Check Engine light may be illuminated. (Codes cannot just be cleared prior to testing!)
Schedule Your Testing Appointment Today
The delay of the Clean Truck Check program will allow you to cross this regulatory task off your list. However, you must test your units by 12/31/2024 to take advantage of this opportunity. Please contact Be CARB Compliant today to schedule your testing appointment.
